In 2004, Jerry and Naomi Hancock owned a custom wraps restaurant and wanted to provide the same customization and freedom to customers with frozen desserts.

Armed with a chemistry degree from Brigham Young University, Jerry developed a method of freezing ice cream with liquid nitrogen (which comes from the air we breathe). His technique was such a success that in 2005 he opened the first Sub Zero Ice Cream shop in Orem, Utah. Since then, Sub Zero Ice Cream has changed from a small, local business into a National and International Sensation.

Sub Zero Ice Cream will continue to be the best at offering the unparalleled ability to deliver exactly the ice cream or frozen dessert that the customer wants. At our stores, each ice cream is hand-prepared, made-to-order and flash-frozen using our patented liquid nitrogen freezing process. The result is the freshest, creamiest ice cream available, and the only place where more than a trillion combinations are possible.

Back in 2000, while everybody else was barreling down to their fortified basements, readying to defend their stockpiles of distilled water and fruit jerky, we optimistically decided to open an unconventional little gift store that sold jewelry, housewares, and anything else that tickled our fancy. Happily, that whole apocalypse thing blew over pretty quickly. But we’re still here, humbly accepting “Best Gift Shop In Indianapolis” awards on the regular, and relentlessly seeking out new offerings for you to present on every birthday, holiday, and—what the hey—Thursday.

At our core, we are a brick and mortar shop where we believe that providing a welcoming, fun, informative shopping experience is of the utmost importance. The vision of The Cat is to be the "Off-Off-Broadway" of Carmel Indiana, giving the artists of Carmel a local, welcoming, and affordable place to play; and giving audiences an affordable place to be entertained. The Cat offers residency for theatre companies without a home and is available for artistic events, classes, recitals and private events.  

In 2009, after a 30-year hiatus, Will Wood reentered the world of theatre. Since then, he has assistant directed, directed, or produced nearly 20 theatrical productions in Central Indiana. Late in 2016, Will found himself with a chance to direct a little Cole Porter musical, You Never Know (that's ok, nobody else has heard of it either!). But, the rehearsal and performance space wasn’t available (not at an affordable price, anyway). 

In the pursuit of finding a home for this production, Will and his wife/business partner, Deborah Wood, happened onto the space of the recently defunct concert venue - The Warehouse. The 60-year-old building on the far southwest corner of Carmel’s Arts & Design District was the perfect space for Will’s upcoming production. However, the Wood’s also saw the opportunity to realize Will’s vision to operate his own community theatre; while providing a space for others (like himself) who are looking for an affordable place to share their talents with the community.

As brothers growing up with four other siblings, Tom and Chuck Lazzara learned the value of hard work, treating others with respect and the importance of family.  Long-time Carmel residents, they have strong roots in the community and love connecting with others.  Chuck, founder of the Ritz Charles, helped thousands of people celebrate milestones and create memorable events during his time as owner.  Tom has been a real estate professional for over forty years and has represented hundreds of clients in successful real estate transactions.

In early 2021, both were looking for a new challenge. They began discussing the idea of a quaint, friendly restaurant that offered a place for people to reconnect with friends and family over charcuterie boards and a glass of wine. That idea developed into a plan, and in July of 2022, Wine & Rind was born. While the menu has evolved to include several delicious dinner options and paninis and soup for lunch, the concept of good food, good wine, and good company remains the same.
